Ovenable flexible packaging

Convenient, safe and hygienic

We supply printed packaging for ovenable applications using films and inks that are compliant with EU 10/2011, EC No. 1935/2004 and SR 817.023.21. Our Q TEX heat resistant ovenable packaging and microwaveable films open up opportunities for our customers to create innovative flexible packaging solutions that are convenient, safe and hygienic for consumers. Terinex Flexibles has been first to market with a number of innovations such as hot needle perforation for printed ovenable films which let out steam during cooking and maintain the desired texture of products such as baked goods in heated display cabinets.

Hot needle perforation

Hole punch and hot needle perforation

Hot-needle perforation is a precise and economical method for tailoring films to the individual requirements of a given product and is used in a wide variety of applications.

Perforations can be made either across the full width of the roll or in defined lanes, in a variety of densities and patterns.

Benefits

  • Precise vapour transmission rates
  • Prevents ballooning – gasses can escape from the holes
  • Releases steam – no fogging
  • Releases aromas

Experts in hot needle perforation

Our state-of-the-art hot needle perforation line delivers precise holes and patterns. We can perforate a wide range of films, including oriented polypropylene (OPP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyethylene (PE) and laminates. Our Q TEX heat resistant ovenable and microwaveable packaging films, for instance, demonstrate excellent thermal stability and high seal strength.

Over 20 years’ experience in packaging materials, inks, label design and perforation means that we can often deliver prototypes within a week of receiving a brief.

Food safety

Food safety and hygiene
Our Q TEX film and inks are independently certified and compliant to Regulation (EU) 10/2011, Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004 and Swiss national legislation (SR 817.023.21) when they are perforated and heated. We were one of the first companies in the UK to secure this approval for perforated, printed films.

Polyester PET film – the perfect choice for convenience in ovenable and microwaveable applications

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) films are ideal for microwaveable and ovenable products that can be stored at ambient, chilled or frozen temperatures.

Our range of weld seal and peelable films are suitable for APet, CPet, PP, PE, cardboard and pulp lined trays.

Sustainability

Flexible packaging films with barrier properties contribute to being more sustainable by improving shelf-life, lightweighting and negating the need for secondary packaging. There are, however, further steps you can take by choosing our microwaveable and ovenable packaging in post-consumer (PCR) recycled PET ranging from 30% – 90% PCR content. An added benefit is that our PCR PET films are exempt from the plastic packaging tax in the UK.
